The purpose of this presentation is to give health care providers and researchers a better understanding of home birth as an option for Ontario women and families. Currently, Ontario is home to more than 600 midwives - about half of the total number of midwives working in Canada - and midwives are the only maternity care providers who offer home birth as a birth place option for pregnant Ontarians.

Elizabeth Brandeis is a Registered Midwife and the Vice-President of the Association of Ontario Midwives. She is a partner at the Midwives Collective of Toronto. Elizabeth is a graduate of the Midwifery Education Program Ryerson University and is a part-time instructor in the Program. She is currently working on her Masters of Community Health with a focus on Health Practitioner Teacher Education at the University of Toronto. Elizabeth has served as Head Midwife at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
